Family Buttcoins has entered another world schooling hub. This time we are in Bansko Bulgaria. The hub is called Articterns. It’s 6 weeks of skiing, learning and excursions. Here is a bit of general information about Bansko. Bansko is a charming mountain town in southwestern Bulgaria, best known for its ski resort, lively après-ski scene, and rich history. Nestled at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, it attracts visitors year-round with outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and hot springs. The town itself has a blend of traditional Bulgarian architecture, cobbled streets, and cozy mehanas (taverns) serving local specialties like kapama and Bansko-style sausage. In winter, it’s Bulgaria’s top ski destination, while summer offers incredible nature and cultural experiences.

As we are here in mid March a lot of the snow is starting to melt so the rivers are really rambling. Amari wasn’t feeling so well today so me, mom and Percy decided to go off on a little hike. Fresh moist air, heavy with pine a wet forest smell. Birds and the calm of deep forest really wash away life’s worries.

This environment calls out to kids. The P-man scampered around off trail and pulling us to see things he found.

Like this giant ant mound he discovered. Not sure if you can see it, but that entire mound is crawling with red fire ants. I always find it amazing how these small insects move and shape the world’s landscapes.

Most of our days have been pretty full of activities so it was nice to just get out into the wild for a wander. The terrain and forests here in Bulgaria are very similar to where I grew up in the countryside of New York.

This was an activity from a few days back. Pretty wild, they brought up an entire symphony up onto the mountainside. Crazy, that’s a grand piano. Amazing music, and fitting of the landscape, but all quite surreal.

Here you have a bunch of us parents swapping stories while the kids build igloos. Sharing tips around traveling with kids has been a great bonus of coming to these world schooling hubs. I’ve appreciated too that many of the families are crypto friendly and invested. So that’s been great. I’ve chatted up Hive a few times… we see if someone comes on board.

Happy kids in the snow. It’s why we came. As a kid I was a skier and I had a feeling both my adventurous kids would enjoy. So far Bansko has been a real winner of a location! Prices are fair and standards are high. I’ve been reading a lot about how overpriced skiing has gotten in the U.S. Over 200$ for a lift ticket and lessons into the 1000’s$ While here a day lift ticket is 42$ and as we got the season pass it will be under 20$ a day. 6 lesson package for under 200$. Time for those skiers in the U.S.A. To get a passport and save money going on a ski vacation in Bulgaria. 🇧🇬
